“Radio has always played an important role throughout my upbringing from that of pretending to be a famous dj’, to that of the Sunday story’s of my child-hood.” Fifty years on, I can still recount many of these stories verbatim and with the same excitement that I remembered.
I started my radio broadcasting career in NZ with MORE FM Wellington/Kapiti in the early 90’s and then had a further stint with Kapiti Beach FM over the following decade. Through my outdoor broadcasts, singer/entertainer events, and community involvement with radio I became a well-known figure on the Kapiti Coast, cementing my position on Beach FM’s popular weekend breakfast show. This ensured constant work as MC and all-round entertainer at an enormous variety of functions and promotions.
In 2006, in response to demand, I was persuaded to compose an album of my most-requested favourites, resulting in my debut album “Play Me”. I featured the title track on TVNZ’s popular “Good Morning Show” on the eve of my departure from NZ and this struck a chord with viewers resulting in many sales of the album and a return to NZ for more appearances. Because of my crooner style I was fortunate to win a part in the touring cast for a tribute show to Nat King Cole in 2007 & 2008 resulting in more television appearances.
I joined Jazz Radio 94.1 as a volunteer broadcaster in January 2010, in response to a call for help to keep Jazz Radio 94.1 alive on the Gold Coast, which coincided with the shift to the new studios in Cavill Avenue. Whilst I haven’t turned my back entirely on my singing career, I have chosen to wait for the right moment to continue in my genre of choice - “Love songs”. WATCH THIS SPACE! …
In the meantime Jazz Radio 94.1 gives me the opportunity to enjoy what I love - producing & live broadcasts - Jazz Radio’s Anzac Day and Mothers Day breakfast programs being examples of that. ‘I feel like a kid in a cot surrounded by all my toys when I’m on Air”
