Qld Government - Gambling Community Benefit Fund

The funding provided by the Gambling Community Benefit Fund contributed greatly to Jazz Radio being able to continue and strengthen a community service that our listeners rely on.

We have an existing dedicated and loyal listener base that has a love of entertainment and the arts, however with the upgrade of the studio we have now been able to introduce many new projects as a direct result of this funding.

We are presently organising a Gold Coast Jazz Band competition where we will air jazz pieces from competing schools, and are investigating a work experience program with Griffith University. We have interviewed the Gold Coast Schools Jazz Band and were able to do a special 'live' cross to their school assembly.

By being actively involved with school community, we are increasing our listener base and gaining a younger audience, that are keeping the jazz era alive. The funding provided will allow us to continue the community service we provide by broadcasting public service announcements, we publicise local music events and keenly support young musicians. We play their CDs, interview them on-air and eagerly promote them and their music.

We also promote venues at which these musicians play. We are a keen supporter of the Arts Centre Gold Coast and contributed to their award of “Best Independent Cinema” for 2008 at the Australian Movie Convention. All of this has been made possible by the generous funding provided by GCBF.
